Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In effort to turn tide and heighten the awareness of breast cancer screenings, I have decided to leave a healthy tip, as this is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Have you been screened?

Screening is when the doctor examines or breast for any abnormalities before and signs and symptoms of breast cancer have occurred. The earlier any suspected tissue is found the better chances for successful treatment and eradication of any disease. A mammography is currently the most common screening tool used worldwide. These may be performed as part of routine health screening with your current health organization, or at local organizational rallies and promotions.

Statistically, it has been found that routine mammography in women between the ages of 50 to 69 lowers the breast cancer risk by 30%. The risk is decreased by 17% in women below the age of 40. Unfortunately there is no evidence to support the reduction of risk in populations above 70, although it is still valuable at all ages.
