Early in October my darling child and I were shopping and she professed with all the strength and air in her lungs, that she needed this doll as we browsed the aisles of Walmart. I laughed and told her that she had a doll like this one, and she quickly replied no I don't I need the potty.

Let me explain. "Baby Alive Learns to Potty" is the item that caused this massive outburst in the middle of Walmart. The doll mommy purchased last year was "Baby Alive Sip and pee" or something like that. All that I know is this wonderful purchase was out of a six dollar pack of pampers before we even finished cleaning up wrapping paper last Christmas. So a definite NO was in my heart and mind about bringing Baby Alive #2 into my house.

Let me tell you why I am questioning my sanity at this point in my life. Remember, that doll was not in any plans in my life. Yet, my child didn't receive that memo so she has repeated the fact that she wants "baby potty" to every living soul that would listen. Not to mention every trip to Wallys we hear about "baby potty". Her D daddy (d can mean darling or damn or dumbass at any point in time, so I will often refer to him as such) asks what is this she keeps talking about because he will get it for her for Christmas. My child excitedly brings him the Super Deluxe Toys R Us book and shows him everything she wants. And because "daddy" is a super hero with all power to do and get anything she wants, my child believes that she is getting all of the toys because she told "daddy". I prayed he would for once handle his business.

Recently, I received a free shipping coupon for Toys R US and they have a promotion for the "baby pott" bonus pack, with extra food and pampers. I call DD and ask him does he have the doll and he said " I got it". His words verbatim. I again asked and he said I will go get it myself don't worry about it. So I let it go. CLUE #1 I know better

Two weeks ago (still no doll purchased by DD) I go to Wallys and the manager says he cant keep baby potty on the shelf. I say oh no. It is over. I go to the TRUS website, the promotion is gone and so is the doll. Sold out.

Target sold out

Walmart sold out

Amazon.com has doll but for over $100 for the chocolate, 20$ for the Caucasian (a whole other story). This alerts me to the fact that "everyone" wants this doll.

So finally I call Toys R US and they have had none, but have a truck coming in, and to call back in the morning. I call at 6am they have 10 and cannot hold the doll. I get myself and daughter dressed thinking how will this work? I arrive at TRUS 2 hours later and find the aisle and there are NO chocolate "baby potty" dolls. I start screaming because I am fed up!! I could have had the doll a couple of months ago for 20-30 dollars cheaper and this was not my d@#^ gift!! DD said he could do it himself. Knowing what I know, I couldn't let my baby down, so I took over as usual. CLUE #2

So while I am screaming a lady says just buy the Hispanic doll it is close enough. She said that's t he one she has and it will have to do. LET ME JUST mention, I am in no way saying that I don't like the Caucasian or Hispanic toys, or respect the people and cultures. I just want the baby to resemble my baby. So a friendly associate helps look for the doll especially since I just called 2 hours prior and it was 8am!! So she finds one I clap and dance and point her to the register. CLUE #3

What was my child doing at this point, you ask? Upon entry into TRUS she went into an "I want this frenzy". Yes she was in the aisle as I freaked out, but she was so busy carrying the Hispanic version, she was oblivious to anything I was doing. So as we left to pay for this overpriced toy, she never saw go to the register, she realized there was nothing for her in my hand. She had to leave the Hispanic "potty" and got nothing. So of course she goes into a fit about how "mommy's mean" saying "I don't want you" and I just carried her to the register, saying something about Christmas and bad girls. Clue #4

I still bought the doll and extra food without her knowing anything.

So again, I say tell me who is crazy? I have all the clues, but didn't stop myself from going over the edge. First, I am frugal and always buy in advance. I have toys in my closet for future birthday parties, so why I didn't grab stupid "baby potty" when she was 30$ instead of 60$ is beyond me. Secondly, this is not my d#$% gift!!. Lastly, I firmly believe in discipline and chuckle a little bit when I see the other parents and meltdowns in toy stores. Usually I can look at Miss Thing and the madness will stop. I don't know who or what that was in TRUS.

Hopefully, my foolishness can help you notice your own strange behaviors and prevent you from going over the deep end of in this Christmas madness.

She better like this Doll. And yes, I called DD and made him pay me immediately!

In the midst of my overflowing emotions, I want to congratulate President Elect Barack Obama and Michelle. This has been a long tumultuous affair that has left me hopeful, and unusually happy.
I must admit that my feelings were exposed during this campaign, as I felt this land that we "sometimes" love was over populated by racist and hateful people. Often the comments and criticisms about Barack had undertones of hatred and fear, and I felt as if they were directed at me. You see, African Americans have this link, this bond, that although we may have never met, seeks to unite and protect our brothers and sisters. I don't know how or where this unspoken bond began, but I know that when it is not felt-there is definitely a problem.
So, I say all of this to say that Barack has now asked to share this unspoken bond with everyone. For although this was quite a momentous occasion for African Americans, he said it was momentous for everyone. He was able to let go of the bitter, hateful slurs of the past, and a even asked the other party members to help him succeed. This showed me a man of true character, and although for some reason some people cannot see this (non-voters), he still acknowledges their presence and asked for their help as well.
As I cry-then smile, order more t-shirts and download more campaign music, I am hopeful and thankful. Hopeful for our future, hoping that I can only be as humble, and thankful for how far we have come.
Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, what if things were switched around?.....think about it.

Would the country's collective point of view be different?
Ponder the following:

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?
What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to painkillers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?(The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)
What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?
What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?
What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?
What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?
What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

You could easily add to this list.

If these questions reflected reality,do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

Education isn't everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the world. You make the call.
Last weekend I went to a Male auction. Not the hot sweaty ooh aah naked type, this one was for charity. The local members of Zeta had been doing them for years and I had heard it was the place to be.

So I walk in, and to my chagrin to find that yes you need real money, we would not be using "Zeta" bucks, and look in my wallet to find a single $20 dollar bill!! Unless it was to be a clearance sale, I definitely was not about to buy a bachelor, let alone a drink.

Anywho, the bachelors were walking around talking to the ladies to heighten the bids. My Soror and I talked to a few and decided to take a seat near the front so we could view the "prospects".

I must say we had a ball!! All of the men were educated and had beautiful teeth. There was this one gentleman that passed out roses, we all just giggled like little kids when we received one. I voted on him, but there was a relentless Zeta that wanted him too, and since I had no money (unless I leaned on my friend and Sorors) and this was their function, I conceded.

After it was all over, the bachelors walked around again, socializing freely since the hard part was done. I decided to tell the young gentleman that I had bid for him and lost. He said he was sorry and asked if we could talk about it in detail later...WOO HOO....
Wednesday afternoon I received a call from my darling daughters father, mentioning that we must go meet with the Dean, because HIS child was misbehaving!! After completely panicking, because I called the school daily to receive an admission packet. I wrote a long loving letter to the school to get "THE MOST SOUGHT Teacher" in the Preschool 3 section. How could she betray me and act so badly that the entire family needs to go the DEAN? To say the least, I was crushed, yes the super POLITICO, often brazen OBAMA MAMA sat sobbing for fear my child was doomed for life.
After pulling myself together, I called him back to find out what happened. Taylor had a small tiff over a seat and decided to hit the child and say "no no". After that she pushed a young man because he wouldn't let her go first. Lastly, the teacher reported that she put a classmate in a head lock.

I am a firm believer in listening to the teacher and following up at home with the child. Too many times the educators in my family have shared stories of folks going off on them because there was a problem with their child. So the next I went to the school and talked with our teacher and she said Ms Taylor is very strong willed. She often thinks she knows it all and will not accept direction. If another child goes against her, she will pinch or hit and say "no no". After hearing that, all I could do was thank her for her time and walk away. Taylor was acting in school as she sees her mother act everyday...I sent myself to the Deans Office.
